hangs the final banner yesterday to launch the Humboldt Valley commercial precinct, in front of Winchester Galleries and the Belvedere complex on Humboldt Street.

Breakfast with Chamber of Commerce reps David Marshall and John Juricic, talking about developing Victoria's Economic Development Strategy, and links to the OCP.  Then Oaklands Parent Appreciation celebration. 

9 am meeting with Downtown Victoria Business Assoc reps on the Downtown Plan and boundaries, legislative district and impact of Uptown development.

Interview with Paul Seal for Vibrant Victoria on late night transit.

Core Area liquid waste mtg at 10:30 to discuss and choose siting for sewage treatment plant, followed by CRD Hospital Board and CRD Board mtgs.

Special incamera mtg with police services to talk about recent police audit and Victoria/Esquimalt arrangements.

Mayor bullish on China trade trip

Dean Fortin is back in Victoria after a two-week trade mission to China with more than a few deals inked -- he's come back with a promise that the city will be back.

"This is a process, not an event," the mayor of Victoria told a group of business-people who had gathered for a report on the mission, which wrapped up May 1.

Fortin said the $400,000 in deals Victoria businesses signed during the trip are a small fraction of what is possible.

"The mission was an investment. If we can continue to follow up we have an opportunity to expand that tenfold -- it's valuable in the instant but more valuable over time," Fortin said in an interview.  read more »

Council recieves the Johnson Street Bridge consultation strategy,and the  BC Transit presentaion of the future of public transportation in Greater Victoria  at GPC tomorrow.

Belfry theatregoers will have a chance next week to see if the four core mayors can spell "amalgamation."

During the final week of the Belfry hit play The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Oak Bay Mayor Christopher Causton, Saanich's Frank Leonard and Victoria's Dean Fortin will be celebrity guest spellers, joining the actors on stage early in the show. The theatre also expects a representative from Esquimalt council.

The mayors will be asked to spell "amalgamation," theatre publicist Mark Dusseault confirmed yesterday, squelching rumours that the contentious word was banned while the mayors were on stage.  read more »
