It feels like just yesterday that I sat in the Council Chambers for the first time as Mayor, with a strong commitment to make things happen and bring our vision to life - a vision of a sustainable city, full of opportunity for everyone.

Back to City Hall today - and even though it is August, it promises to be a busy week.  High Tech industry mtg, first nations chiefs mtgs, homelessness mtgs, dragon boat opening ceremonies and India Fest on the weekend.  And of course, Council on Thursday, where we get the results of the Ipso poll and the 2000 mail in's from residents saying where we go with the bridge!

Victoria One of 15 Canadian Cities to Participate in Climate Change Adaptation Initiative

VICTORIA, BC — The City of Victoria will join forces with the respected International Council for Local
Environmental Initiatives to participate in a two-year pilot program to design and implement local climate adaptation programs. 
 
 “With green transportation being one of the community’s top priorities, climate change is clearly top of mind,” noted Mayor Dean Fortin. “This pilot will help ensure we are taking progressive steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

A full and busy day yesterday - but a great respite was to meet with actress Tea Gill (Queer as Folk, Proof) and Director Brian Richmond and artist Richard Bell. Tea is currently starring in "Streetcar named Desire" at the Mac! Off to Moss street Paint in - weather today... still "Awesome"!

Building on the success of the city's first street urinal, city staff are recommending installing two more places to go for people who gotta go.

"We've had great success with our one permanent urinal we've put downtown," Mayor Dean Fortin said.

And ladies, city staff are recommending that at least one of the two new pissoirs be modified for use by women. Locations for the new urinals have yet to be chosen.  read more »
