Tomorrow morning, a very special mtg with Sister Margaret and her group of first nations homeless, looking to stay clean, one day at a time... a few warm words of support - anything to help.   It is called Retreats in the City.

Council recieves the Johnson Street Bridge consultation strategy,and the  BC Transit presentaion of the future of public transportation in Greater Victoria  at GPC tomorrow.

Today: Sewage treatment at CRD, Transportation committee and Urban Development Institute members mtg on the downtown. Tomorrow, special council mtg to get the results of the Ipso Reed poll on what Victoria's think about the Johnson Street Bridge.

Tree planting ceremony with Mayor of Morioka Japan at 11 today in Beacon Hill park, and then off to the opening Ceremonies of the Highland Games!  Sun just peeked through - lets go Victoria!

Letter to TC Editor re Crest OP-ED

 


Thank you for the recent editorial on the pressing need to address the radio performance issues being experienced by police officers in Victoria and Esquimalt.

As an important point of clarification, the recently commissioned study by the City of Victoria was independent of both CREST and Victoria Police and was conducted in an effort to bring closure to conflicting reports from both parties respectively.  read more »

First Nations Burning Ceremony

 

As part of the reinternment ceremony for the remains of a first nation woman disturbed by city construction work, we acted as her family and hosted a burning ceremony, which includes a feast for the band at the end. We engaged a first nation speaker to represent the city at this event, which included Chief Andy Thomas and Chief Sam.

 

 

Thursday Dec 17th

 

Today is Red Umbrella Day - marking the Day to End Violence against Sex Trade workers. The event begins with a march from Discovery and Government Street to the BC leg at 11. We start the day with the KOOL FM Food For Families event at Thrifty Foods with the amazing Robin Farrell. See everyone at Denise Savoie's Xmas open house at 4 today!

Tuesday, Nov 10-09 Gord Dodd becomes a police board member

 

Today begins by returning the World War One medal to the Walker family, then off to CRD Liquid Waste committee, Oaklands school and the night closes out with Police Board - new member to induct today, Victoria's own Gord Dodd!

Remembrance Week

 
This is remembrance day week, with the ceremony on Wednesday at the Memorial on the lawns of the Legislature at 11. I will be at Oaklands Elementary School on Tuesday to participate in the Assembly there as well. I look forward to visiting many of the local Legions to say thanks to the veterans with my friend Rob Fleming.

 

Thursday Nov. 5th - Coffee anyone?

 

Meeting with CEO of Salt Spring Coffee Co, a great green company,   then meeting with Victoria Seals Baseball CEO Darren Parker.  Day finishes with Joint Council and Police Board budget meeting.

Nov 2 - The "834" breaks ground

 

Today is the groundbreaking ceremony for "The 834" on Johnson Street.  it is private market development, but is affordable entry level, and sale are to people who dont need cars.  It is the largest residential  development to break ground this year and can be used as rentals as there are no restrictions under the strata bylaws.

Streets to Homes (S2H) launch today - Nov 2-09

 

Today we launch a new homeless initative, helping people move from streets to homes.  United Way and BC Housing came together to support this Coalition to End Homelessness  effort.  Working with the private sector and BC Housing to secure affordable rents, and all the support service organizations, we coordinate, support people in their homes.  It is a great start and one of  read more »
